Beth Ehlers, who was born on July 23, 1968 in Queens, New York, attended a performing arts school by the name of Satellite Academy when she was a young girl. She later briefly attended Syracuse University before pursuing an acting career. Growing up in New York City, Ehlers began appearing on television commercials at the age of nine. She was discovered acting in a church play when she was 10 years old.

Ehlers soon became a child actress, landing a role in the 1981 TV movie Family Reunion, starring Bette Davis. Her other made-for-TV film roles were in In Defense of Kids and Mystery at Fire Island. In 1983, she made her big screen debut alongside David Bowie in the movie The Hunger. This was followed by roles in the television production Things Are Looking Up, the series The Best Times, and the film Hiding Out. In 1987, she rose to fame when she joined the cast of the CBS soap opera, Guiding Light, as Harley Davidson Cooper. Her portrayal garnered her four Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including one in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She is actually known for earning nominations on all three acting categories: Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Young Actress. She left the show in 1993 with co-star Mark Derwin, who she was romantically involved with at the time. The two of them appeared in the music video for the song “And Still” by Reba McEntire. When their relationship ended, Ehlers worked as a production assistant on commercials and music videos. She returned to Guiding Light in 1997, much to the positive response of fans. Leaving the show in 2008, she got the part of Taylor Thompson in another soap opera, All My Children. There, she reunited with Guiding Light co-star Ricky Paull Goldin who portrays the character Jake.

Ehlers has also graced the pages of many publications. In February 2004, she was featured on the cover of Woman’s World. She later appeared on the August 2005 issue of Inside TV, and was named a “Star of Tomorrow” by Entertainment Weekly magazine. In 1998, she received the Champion of Fine Arts Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Western Connecticut Chapter.
